Bio of Speaker

Alexander Tah-Ray Yui is the highest-ranking official of the Taiwan government in the United States. Based in Washington, D.C., he serves as the Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the U.S., a position he assumed in December 2023. Prior to this appointment, Yui was the Representative of the Taipei Representative Office in the European Union and Belgium.

His career is marked by significant leadership positions and a deep understanding of international relations, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean. He served as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2021 to 2023, and as Director-General of the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs from 2018 to 2021. This followed his tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Paraguay from 2015 to 2018, and Director-General of the Bureau de Genève, Délégation Culturelle et Économique de Taipei from 2012 to 2015.  

Mr. Yui’s career also includes time as a Diplomacy Fellow at the Brookings Institution in the United States, and significant postings across Central and South America. He served as First Secretary, Senior First Secretary, and Political Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in El Salvador. He has also held key positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Section Chief and Executive Officer, where he also served as an interpreter for the President and senior government officials. His early career included a role as Executive Assistant at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York. We are extremely pleased to welcome Representative Yui to Denver.
