Overview
The Denver Council on Foreign Relations (DCFR) is building an informed, inclusive, and globally engaged community by providing education on international affairs and their local impact. By providing education on global affairs to our members and the public, the Denver Council on Foreign Relations helps people understand international issues and appreciate their local impact. Our vision is to promote global awareness, illuminate a complex world, and inspire the next generation of internationally-minded leaders.

When you become a DCFR member, we collect:

When you register for DCFR events, we collect:

- Payment Information: Processed securely through third-party payment processors
- Special Requirements: Dietary restrictions, accessibility needs, and guest registrations.
3. Website and Newsletter Information
When you visit our website or subscribe to our newsletter, we may collect:

2. Member Directory and Networking
The DCFR maintains a member directory feature available through Wild Apricot. See, https://www.wildapricot.com/. By default, certain information (name, email, title, and role) may be visible to other active members. Members have complete control over what information is displayed and can hide or limit the visibility of their personal information through their Wild Apricot profile privacy and security settings.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
1. Our Non-Sharing Commitment
The DCFR does not sell, rent, or lease its membership lists, event registration lists, mailing lists, or personal information to third parties for their independent marketing purposes.
2. Trusted Service Providers
We share information with trusted third-party service providers who process data on our behalf, including:
- Wild Apricot: Membership database management, website hosting, email communications
- Mailchimp: Newsletter and email marketing services. See, https://mailchimp.com/.
- Payment Processors: PCI-compliant processors integrated with Wild Apricot for secure financial transactions
These service providers are contractually bound to protect your information and use it only for the specific services they provide to DCFR.
3. Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law or in good faith belief that such disclosure is necessary to:
- Comply with legal processes or government requests
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of DCFR, our members, or the public

Consent for Guest Registrations
When registering guests for events or adding bundle members, members are responsible for obtaining their consent to our data collection and use practices as outlined in this Privacy Policy. We utilize several third-party platforms for day-to-day operations. Each has its own privacy policy, for which DCFR is not responsible. Key third parties2 include:

- Google Workspace: Email and document management
- Cloudflare & Cloudflare Bot Management: Website security and performance
- Google reCAPTCHA: Spam and bot protection
- WordPress: Website content management
- Bluehost: Web hosting services

Your Privacy Rights
1. Access and Correction
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you. As a Wild Apricot user, you can review and update your profile information by logging into your account. For additional assistance, contact us at [email protected].
2. Deletion and Opt-Out
You may request deletion of your personal information from our records, subject to legal and financial retention requirements. You can:
- Unsubscribe from non-essential communications using the unsubscribe link in emails
- Update preferences in your Wild Apricot account settings
- Request account deletion by contacting us directly
3. Member Directory Control
Members can control their visibility in the member directory through their Wild Apricot profile settings, including the ability to hide their information entirely from other members.
Data Security
The Denver Council on Foreign Relations strives to implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Our security measures include:
- Secure data transmission through encrypted connections
- Restricted access to personal information on a need-to-know basis
- Regular security assessments of our systems and service providers
- PCI-compliant payment processing for financial transactions
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, comply with applicable laws and regulations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Specific retention periods include:
- Membership records: Maintained during active membership plus seven years for financial and legal compliance. If you are or become a nonmember and do not want your records maintained, we will remove your personal identification records upon request.
- Event participation: Retained for organizational records and future event planning
- Financial records: Maintained per nonprofit financial record-keeping requirements
- Marketing communications: Until you unsubscribe or request deletion
Children’s Privacy
The Denver Council on Foreign Relations does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will promptly take steps to delete such information3. No information from a minor will be collected unless a guardian or parent expressly consents in writing.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. - The Colorado Privacy Act (“CPA”) prior to October 1, 2025, defined a “child” as an individual under 13 years of age. C.R.S. § 6-1-1303(4), which was (and is) consistent with the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) 15 U.S.C. § 6501(1).
However, amendments effective October 1, 2025, added new definitions for the terms “minor” (individual under age 18) and “adult” (individual age 18 or older), creating three age classes for individuals (Colo. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 6-1-1303(1) (effective October 1, 2025).
