Description of Event
We are excited to announce that the Stimson Center and DCFR are partnering on an amazing opportunity to learn more about the U.S. and South Korea alliance and what that means for regional security, trade, and politics. Doors open at 5:30 PM, panel starts at 6 PM. Appetizers and drinks will be provided.
The strength of the US-South Korean alliance holds enduring value for the US and local communities against the backdrop of today’s evolving geopolitical challenges and in the pursuit of our collective goals of freedom, democracy, security and economic prosperity. Bringing this discussion to the local level, we aim to deepen public awareness of and interest in the Alliance’s enduring value.
Conversation will delve into the ways the US-ROK alliance reflects our shared aims and values, through all facets of the relationship—military, economic, and diplomatic—and the benefit this relationship has for the American population. Highlighting the role of the US-ROK alliance in the context of current events and the ever-changing geopolitical situation, we aim to facilitate deeper discussions on the impact of the Alliance for local audiences. A range of discussion topics will encompass the future of extended deterrence on the Korean Peninsula, the Alliance’s role in US Indo-Pacific strategy, multi-domain security cooperation, and the expansion of strategic trade. As the event is planned to take place shortly after the US presidential election, conversation will also examine the implications and opportunities for the incoming administration in terms of the US-ROK alliance, the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and the broader region.
